The Grangestone Sherry Cask Finish is part of the Double Cask matured line, in this case finishing its aging in sherry casks—a practice common in the scotch industry to pick up color and character from the sherry. All whisky made in Scotland is Scotch, and must follow specific production regulations. All Scotch varieties fall within two broad categories or are blends of these two: malt whisky and grain whisky. The Grangestone line of scotch is an independent label of different single malts and blends selected for the line. The Grangestone Islay Blend is a "vatted" or "blended" malt in that all the whisky is malt whisky but from different distilleries (hence, not a "single" or single distillery malt). The Grangestone 25yr blend takes a blend of very old single malt scotch blended with grain (corn) whiskey to soften the flavor and presumably some of the oak, bottled at a very light 80 proof.
